THE 2006 BACK TO THE BANKS EVENT AND RESULTS
8/21/2006
Back to the Banks is a grassroots skate contest held at the internationally famous Brooklyn Banks in New York City. Now in its second year, this annual event encourages skaters everywhere to work with their local city governments to preserve established "natural" skate spots in public spaces. Steve Rodriguez fought long and hard to preserve the banks from certain destruction, and through many trials and tribulations, he succeeded and now the banks is here to stay.

This past Saturday August 19th was the Annual banks contest. Kids flooded in from all over the northeast for their chance to win some cash and skate along side the pros. The event was broken down into for mini best trick contests, and in the end a "king of the banks' was awarded to whoever skated everything the best.

A lot of people showed up.

Zered Basset took the first spot, the bank to block that Dan Pensyl and Tim Vander built the day before. The thing rules, so get over there and session it. The next spot was the wall ride, which Jimmy Mcdougal won with a whole slew of tricks. The rail and stairs were attacked by many, some got broke and some were successful. Dustin Charleton coated himself in blood from tricks he was trying. Donnelly from Buffalo kickflip front boardslide the rail. Ryan Bobier took the cash with a smooth frontside bluntslide to fakie. The final spot was the granite block kicker. Brandon Westgate put on a serious display of proper flick with his 360 flips, hardflips and near frontside heelflips. Collin Hale took the cash with a nollie 360 flip, nollie inward heelflip and a nollie backside flip first go to set it off.

In the end, Victorville native Matt Allen took the king award for attacking every obstacle and throwing it down all over the banks.
